wheelchair designs

I have been researching for a new wheelchair (not that we can afford a new one at this moment) the chair I am most interested in this time is the OttoBock BLIZZARD wheelchair.(I will attach the website address of the chair)

Blizzard

Open and light
The rigid frame active wheelchair Blizzard was designed for active persons who move around in the wheelchair independently. Its construction is very compact, and therefore it is also agile and very maneuverable in small rooms. It can also be easily stowed by one person without requiring excessive strength, thanks to its very low weight. Therefore the user can transfer into and out of the vehicle independently.

Individually adjustable
A large selection of options and equipment makes optimal adaptation to the user possible. The Blizzard is simple to adjust. You can change the position of the centre of gravity and the steering wheel trailing in just a few easy steps. The frame is custom-manufactured in order to match the individual user’s needs exactly. Various anterior frame angles and contours are available to ensure optimal leg support. The position of the drive wheels can be easily modified using a small-increment ratchet. The back rest provides the active user with various angle settings, forming an ergonomic unit consisting of the seat and back rest. Depending on individual requirements, the wheel camber can be set in 3° increments between 0° for daily use and 9° for sports.

The Blizzard is extremely easy to operate and is therefore perfect for active driving. It provides the user with the greatest possible amount of everyday freedom and helps him or her to optimally use and train his or her capabilities.

It is suitable to my needs, strong adjustable, and sturdy with a light weight approach. The main attraction is the wheel guards, the common trouble with guards is the are made of plastic type materials.

Blizzard guards are made a alluminuim, and quite attractive to look at. Price would be high however, hence only looking, the main focus of the chair I believe is the balancing system, boyanicing equally within the central aspect of the dimensions of the seating and front castors.

Currently I have 2 chairs, Mogo chair, made from existing dimensions, and frame, and an Invacare top end terminator (titanium) the troubles with those chairs, is the squeak alot when wheeling around corners, and they don't have the central boyanicing of the Blizzard chair.

I have a keen idea in my head for an appropiated chair that I would like to be designed for me, I don't want another manaufacturer to build it from their existing frames, I want one built from scratch, with a diferent frame work, seating however i will stick with the noraml structure, backrest aswell, but the frame and the seating backrest will or would be manaufactured with my ideas.

Now lets discuss sports chairs briefly, I purchased last year, A HAMMER chair form Colours in AMerica, it was advertised in Australia as A BAsketball chair, however it was far to bulky for that sport, and the company maintained it as a full contact sports chair, however, i don't want to be full contact, that sounds hurtfull.

Colours chairs are absolutely state of the art, and sexy chairs, If I had the money I would buy a shockwave chair from them, but they no longer have a distributor in Australia.

I hope you enjoy my rantings this week, I look forward to have my blogs read more as they come more frequent. So building my own chair sounds great, however I dont have access to any engineering equipment, so that is a pipes dream
